I’m calling first thing Tuesday morning as now that it’s winter here it’s a weekly change of hoses to keep the water at bay. I don’t remember if we received a water trap with my oxygen concentrator. At least now I know what to ask for. Will it hurt me to wait till the store is open (2days) from now?

I have 2 water traps on my tubing and still get waterboarded almost every night. It makes no difference how much water I put in the bottle. I cannot seem to get any help from my oxygen carrier…….I have been told I had too much humidity in my bedroom, temperature fluctuations as a possible cause, too much water in the bottle. I’ve tried NOT using the water and it causes headaches and sore throat and the phlegm is too thick and sticky to cough up. Any ideas would be helpful and I will pass them on to the many COPD groups I’m a part of.

Hi, I’m noticing that water is collecting in the tubing from the concentrator to about 1 feet before the water trap but somehow I don’t see any water in the trap itself. But the Cannula tubing itself has water collecting (from its connection to the trap to the nose piece. Would you have any suggestions?

Been about week now and what’s going on is the water that has got in my nose cavity moved seems to my ears and caused me when I laid down to get very very dizzy and Nauseous it still is making me feel sick but not dizzy several hours later .. my sister in- law mentioned to try equal parts of 50% alcohol and vinegar in my ears . Feeling somewhat better now… my fingers are crossed

And I can still hear bubbling & gurgling thru the cannula tubing cuz that tubing is right on my ear. I can’t wear it at all then. The gurgling & bubbling is maddening. Thanks David but my question goes one step further. I have the trap and have positioned it correctly. But when I lay on my side or tilt my head left or right a very small amount of condensation locates in the small tubing just short of the piece put in your nose. The air pushes through this small opening and makes a annoying fluttering sound that makes it impossible to sleep. I remove from my nose, pinch the end piece to clear any moisture, then start again. Again the moister builds. When sitting up, it does not do it. I know that sounds a little silly but it’s happening and I can’t figure out what’s causing it or how to stop it. Note: I’ve changed cannula three times but it’s the same with each new one. The supplier brought a new machine and no change. Help.

I have the water trap and it is placed in the proper place ( as per your video ) and I still get moisture coming out of the cannula at night. There is no moisture showing in the trap. The water bottle is only about 1/3 full. What else can I try? This only happens at night when I am sleeping and I wake up with water bubbling out into my nose.
Some one asked how to clear the moisture out of the cannula tubing and I have found that if you have a nebulizer you can attach the cannula tubing to the air supply outlet on the nebulizer and turn it on, the airflow is strong enough to push the moisture out of the cannula tubing,

Hi David
I think what you guys are describing is much less water than I’m talking about. It is like a faucet it’s pouring through my cannula in to my nose and choking me. I don’t believe that a water trap will work for this problem. It’s WAY TOO MUCH WATER!! We have tried changing the humidifier but no luck. Suggestions?

Can or do you wash or clean the inside of oxygen tubing once water has been present? If so what is the correct way to clean the inside of oxygen tubing?
Hi Christopher,
Usually the oxygen tubing is replaced instead of being cleaned. Please check with your oxygen supplier regarding the frequency.
Have a great day!
Hi David I just wanted to land a little hint about what I do. As a retired nurse now working as a caregiver I teach people about the condensation buildup in the line with the proper placement of extra piece that you show in your video. Even in the proper place we can still get water in the Tubing. So I told them to go outside and swing it around like a lasso over their head it makes a cool sound, it’s good exercise and it does the trick..
Hi Pam, I am cracking up over visualizing this!
Thank you for your sharing your expertise,
David

Thank you!
Hi, I forgot to ask previously on how to get the water drained out of the tubing. It was suggested to hang it over the shower rod and that’s not tall enough. I hung it over the living room curtain rod and it’s still not tall enough. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Shelley

I have a water trap and have placed it both towards the front of the line and towards the end of the line. I continue to have condensation build up. Other solutions? Thanks, Shelley
Hi Shelley,
The water trap usually goes between the long oxygen tubing and your nasal cannula.
If you watch the video, I believe it’s demonstrated around the 1:11 minute mark.
Have a great day!
thank you, but that did not stop mine . the moisture collect at in the canna tube right at the nose piece, or in the small lines leading up to it.

Yes but water droplets sit in tubing and I noticed it gets cloudy so I have to change tubing every couple of days. Certainly do Not want my oxygen going through that! Have up yesterday and took water bottle off!

Does the water in the line displace the amount of oxygen coming through? Doesn’t it effect the amount of moisture you’re inhaling? Are either of these things true Even if the trap isn’t full?

So where would I put the water trap then the only place would be next to the water bottle itself? Thank you

How should the water trap lay with the hose? Vertical or horizontal?
Hi Jenn, great question. The water trap is usually placed on the floor in a horizontal position. Have a great day!
Hi David, thank you for the video and explanation! However, I still have the problem of my water coming up my tubing through the night. I noticed this problem now that we are in “summer” (I’m from Ohio). Not so much during winter. Also, how can I dry out the actual nasal tubing? Sometimes I don’t get water, but it gargles All night Long! Ahhh! Anything else I can do? Add more tubing? Hang the tubing? I’m desperate! I have green tubing attached to concentrator, then water trapper, then nasal tubing. Is this right? Please help!
Thank you so much!

Does the water collecting in the tubing create a resistance to oxygen flow? I am concerned that this situation is causing further difficulty in
my wife’s breathing.
Thank You

If the water trap is supposed to be by the nasal cannula, it cannot lay on the floor. So where does it go?

thank you for that info I was given one by my supplier but was never told what it was or how to use it!
You are very welcome Christine, we are very glad to help!
I’m concerned about the air flowing over the water that stays in the tubing, does this water create risk of infection.

Good to know we’re doing it right. My question though is once the water collects in the tubing, how do you get it out?
Hi Sandy, usually you have to twist either end off. It can be very tight so Patients have told us they use a rubber gripper to open it.
I will try to make a quick video about this for everyone.
Thank you! Would have never known to ask.
You are very welcome Christine. So may people have asked us about it, we decided a quick video would really help.
In have that piece that suppose to catch the water in the tubing and mine does not work, water get though that up though the other tubing into my nose is there something else that can be used
Hi Paulette, there could be a few things causing this. Is the water trap filled up? Is the water trap placed on the end of the nasal cannula?
Also, you could ask your oxygen provider for a new one and replace it. I hope this helps!
I have the same problem and have done everything you mentioned. I also keep my water trap vertical. Somehow it totally skips the trap and goes into the canula. How can this be? What to do?

Do you have a fix for fogging in the car. It gets bad where you cannot see out the window unless we crack the window to clear. Dan has an active liquid oxygen portable and 3 more in trunk to help
Hi Cindy, that is a very interesting question. Have you tried using your cars A/C to help defog the car?
I would ask your oxygen supplier if anyone else has this issue and what has helped them.
I don’t understand where to place the water trap…
Hi Suz,
The water trap usually goes between the long oxygen tubing and your nasal cannula.

Have a great day!
I use a BiPAP Machine. I assume I would remove the water trap when I hook up my BiPAP each night?
Thank You,
Susan
Hi Susan, great question!
I would check with your BiPAP supplier, since BiPAP usually comes with it’s own humidification.
thank you very much this was really useful info
You are very welcome Rebecca!
